The PhD project will focus on making developments and improvements in the field of Monte Carlo parton showers/branching algorithms.
One aspect of the project will focus on dShower, a parton shower simulation of double parton scattering based on first principles theory.
Here some important directions include enabling the possibility to have different hard scales for the two interactions, including spin and colour interference effects in the shower, and adding hadronisation.
The other aspect of the project focusses on full colour evolution in QCD, and will involve the numerical simulation of generic particle collisions involving several coloured particles, including subleading colour contributions.
Ultimately there is potentially the possibility to unify the two research strands, for example, looking at better describing multiple additional soft interactions using an amplitude-based branching algorithm approach with subleading colour contributions appropriately included.
