The study will explore Scottish fiddle music of c. 1770-1820 by female composers, collectors, publishers and musicians. This period has become known as a 'golden age' of Scottish fiddlers and fiddle music, but it has only
een written from the perspective of male practitioners. Through examining source material such as manuscripts and published music, it will establish an in-depth picture of the repertoire, instruments, and performance contexts
of female musicians, undertaking a re-evaluation of their importance in Scotland's national musical styles. It will be transmitted through a dissertation, a music edition, and a selection of audio-visual recordings. Research
