This study will be guided by the following research questions:
What were the key differences in operations and reception of independent and dictatorship-run screenings? Was there resistance to the dictatorship screenings, and if so, what form did it take? What types of spaces and locations were used as sites of film exhibition and what impact did these places and spaces have on the film, and social and political cultures they supported?
How did distribution, film programming and advertising, technical requirements (means of transport, film stock and projection equipment) and specificities of space contributed to realising the screenings? What were, if any, the differences between independent and dictatorship-run practices? How were the screenings experienced by local audiences and what was their impact on the social, cultural and political fabric of these rural communities?
