Aim: To explore Welsh-medium and bilingual education policies for migrant communities in Wales, and to understand how local authorities, Welsh policy, and other key bodies implement the Welsh government education and integration policies to support migrant pupils. Purpose of the research:
The project seeks to investigate the practices in promoting Welsh-medium schools and bilingual education in Wales to migrants to make informed decisions about their children's education, through the following objectives:
1. Examine current practices affecting migrants' enrolment in Welsh-medium schools and bilingual education, including English/Welsh literacy support.
2. Investigate school information provided by stakeholders (e.g., local authorities, migrant aid, Welsh Refugee Council, Oasis, TGP Cymru) to migrant families.
3. Explore Welsh-medium schools' actions and policies for supporting migrant pupils and families including wellbeing, and integration practices. 4. Understand the role of the Welsh language for migrants' integration and sense of belonging in Wales. 5. Investigate the motivations behind migrant families enrolling their children in Welsh-medium and bilingual schools.
