This research investigates the representation, experiences, and development opportunities for women leaders in rugby union, aligning with the increasing focus on women's leadership development in sports (Matthews & Piggott, 2021).
Despite historical challenges within rugby's male-dominated culture (Joncheray et al., 2014), a notable shift is apparent, as emphasized in World Rugby's Women's Development Plan, outlining women's crucial roles in strategy, plans, and structures (Jacobs & Sellars, 2019; World Rugby, 2020; Joncheray, 2021).
Concentrating on international and European federations, the study aims to analyse the current status of women in leadership positions in rugby through statistical data, identify barriers via interviews and surveys, and assess the impact of leadership initiatives and programs like WSLA, Capgemini Women in Rugby Leadership Programme, and Grassroots to Global.
While inclusivity will be considered in participant profiles and experiences, it is not the central focus of the research.
The study contributes insights into the evolving landscape of women's leadership in rugby, bridging academic and practical perspectives.
