The proposed research will explore relationships between the auditory elements of music, sound design and dialogue within the soundtracks of horror cinema, framed within the recent concept of the integrated approach. The research will explore how these relationships are achieved through the methods and techniques of filmmakers, and their narrative and emotional impact on viewer responses. This leads to the following research questions:
What relationships exist between the integrated soundtrack elements of music, sound design and dialogue?
How are these relationships achieved through different techniques and methods of horror genre cinema filmmakers over the last two decades? How the relationships and their techniques and methods contribute to desired audience responses?
The proposed study aims to contribute to the relatively new concept of the 'integrated soundtrack' and offer a model in the development of its analytical methods.
