Grant Description

There are fresh and highly original ideas on how to resolve the problem.

A key idea is to consider, on the one hand, co-existing populations of Lagrangian particles with tracer concentrations and apply to them novel stochastic transport models with different characteristics. On the other hand, we will consider transport tensors corresponding to the Eulerian turbulent fluxes.

How can these tensors be fitted out from the Lagrangian-particle data, which is practically more available?

The outcome would make it possible to improve current parameterizations of mesoscale eddies in climate-type ocean models.

In addition to developing conceptual models and methods for cross-fitting the Lagrangian and Eulerian transport characteristics, we will explore and cross-fit these processes for material tracer transports in eddy-resolving solutions of the ocean circulation.
