In lanthanide-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs), changes to peripheral ligands, anions and non-coordinating solvents can have a significant effect on the magnetic properties.
In this project we will substitute small SMM anions for large, bulky polyoxometalate (POM) anions to modify the second coordination sphere.
The aim is to produce SMM-POM hybrid materials, opening the door to a vast array of new multifunctional materials, combining magnetic and redox-active properties with potential applications in sensing, catalysis and molecular electronics.
