We are experiencing a biodiversity and extinction crisis. Conservation is helping, with 21-32 bird species saved from extinction since 1993.
Despite this, one in eight of the world's bird species remain at risk of global extinction and many threatened species continue to decline. There are two broad potential reasons for this. Conservationists may be failing to identify appropriate conservation actions.
Alternatively, appropriate actions may have been identified but not carried out, due to lack of funding, geo-political circumstances etc., creating a 'conservation action' gap.
This studentship, in collaboration with BirdLife International, will further understand the size and consequences of this conservation gap, and how to reduce it.
