In this computational PhD project, we will consult new transcriptomic evidence from single cells (single-cell genomics) to further investigate the developmental hourglass model and organisational checkpoint hypothesis across the tree of life.
To achieve this, we will harness cutting-edge software solutions developed in our team (myTAI, Drost et al., 2018; DIAMOND2, Buchfink et al., 2021; DeepClust, Buchfink et al., 2023; and GenEra, Barrera-Redondo et al., 2023) to establish a new evolutionary transcriptomics framework for single cell genomics.
The successful candidate will make active contributions to a two-century lasting debate in biology using only recently accessible technologies such as next-generation sequencing, protein search at tree-of-life scale, machine learning for biological systems, and high-performance cloud computing.
