Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are considered to be 'contaminants of emerging concern' due to their environmental persistence, bio-accumulative potential, and potential adverse effects on human health.
This project will focus on deducing PFAS risks to surface water abstraction sites, to inform appropriate management strategies for catchments which address such impacts. The aim is to better understand the risks of PFAS releases to surface water resources and potable water supply and develop appropriate monitoring, abstraction management, and/or source control strategies to mitigate and reduce PFAS chemicals entering water supply systems.
