This project will utilise the philosophical hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer to explain different interpretations and understandings of the international.
It will strive to merge philosophy with contemporary international relations study, justifying the use of hermeneutical philosophy as method, and to present a framework for understanding how international units engage with the international, that can be replicated. To operationalise this theoretical approach, the thesis will employ China as a case study.
