Grant Description

I am highly intrigued by the interdisciplinary approach and innovative research opportunities offered by the SoCoBio DTP programme. The programme's emphasis on diversity and inclusion criteria highlights how varied perspectives are integral to advancing scientific knowledge, aligning with my beliefs. The structured research training offered by the SoCoBio DTP, is essential to my career goals, when aiming to contribute to the field of biosciences, with specific focus on cancer biology and genetics.

I believe working with cancer will be incredibly rewarding as my work will focus on helping others through combatting the prevalence of the disease and by providing a better quality of life for those affected. The dynamic and collaborative environment provided with the SoCoBio DTP aligns perfectly with my long-term ambition to contribute meaningful research in the field of biosciences.

Undertaking and achieving a distinction in a Master's degree in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics at the University of Kent has equipped me with a strong foundation in bioscientific research skills. Building on this, completing various lab-based projects, including my Master's thesis, titled: "Characterisation of Parental and Drug-Adapted LoVo Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines: Insights into APOBEC3 Gene Expression" have provided me with the opportunity to become proficient in a variety of both lab-based and problem-solving skills, that can be easily implemented into my work.

Not only have these projects provided me with invaluable transferable skills in a lab-based setting, such as cell culture, qPCR and utilisation of CRISPR-Cas9 technology, but they have greatly deepened my knowledge surrounding bioscientific research. I consider myself an excellent fit for the SoCoBio community, as my personal experiences have instilled in me the ability to adapt to various challenges.
