The aim of this project is to interface individual laser-cooled atoms, which are excited to high Rydberg states, with single microwave photons in superconducting circuits for applications in quantum information processing.
This hybrid quantum interface will be used to allow the conversion of optical photons into microwave photons for applications in quantum communications, and in the implementation of hybrid quantum memories.
This project builds directly on the pioneering experiments performed in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCL over the last 5-years, to coherently interface Rydberg atoms with superconducting microwave circuits for applications in quantum information processing.
