Scottish Gaelic is culturally and linguistically similar to Irish, however, national language policy, language status and speaker populations in Ireland and Scotland differ considerably. A significant arm of Irish language revitalisation efforts is the language summer camp system.
This research will implement an Irish language camp model in a Scottish Gaelic context to examine how this model may be transposed onto a contextually differing minority language situation, and how this experience may in turn impact attendees' linguistic confidence, motivation and identity. The research findings will have implications for Scottish Gaelic language planning policy.
