The coupling between the Higgs boson and the top quark is responsible for the large top quark mass in the Standard Model.
The coupling can be modified by physics beyond the Standard Model that may explain outstanding questions such as the nature of dark matter and the origin of mass.
In this project the student will make new measurements sensitive to the top-Higgs coupling using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider.
The measurements may include first differential cross-section measurements of the four-top final state or measurements of very high transverse momentum Higgs bosons produced in association with top quarks, both of which are sensitive to the top-Higgs coupling.
