The huge impact of scientific research on our lives (from Covid-19 to climate change) and the close connection between science and policy, make (legitimate) public trust in science increasingly vital.
But, faced with vast scientific collaborations and transformative technologies, such as AI, current methods for assessing scientific research seem outdated and mismatched with present practice.
This thesis will plug the gap by providing some of the currently lacking methodological tools for assessing scientific research in light of modern scientific practices, and exploring the implications for the way science is communicated and acted upon.
