The research aims to underpin the complex transcriptomic, epigenomic and molecular environment of wheat when subjected to mechanical stimulation. Supplementing this, phenotypic responses will be explored, but previous work has begun to illuminate this (hindhough). Particular attention will be paid to the photosynthetic output, grain quality and other grain characteristics.
Concomitant with drought and increased global rising temperatures, windspeeds are set to increase; understanding how this stress will affect one of the UK staples will provide invaluable information to the agricultural sector and ultimately the UK populace.
