The student will undertake theoretical and numerical investigations into a self-consistent 'beam-loading' model for the electron-electromagnetic interaction of structure-guided waves. The theory will be applied to the acceleration of both highly relativistic and lower-energy electron beams.
The studentship will also undertake the development and experimental investigation of high-gradient THz-driven acceleration in dispersion-designed waveguide-like structures.
The experimental research will make use of our ultrafast laser and electron-source facilities at the Cockcroft Institute, and high-energy particle accelerator facilities at Daresbury national laboratory.
