The biological cell is a highly sophisticated system capable of processing chemical reactions with high rates and specificity due to a cell's compartmentalized structure.
Moreover, the cell employs a perfectly organized molecular transport system that channels nutrients, substrates, metabolites and reaction products effectively. The applicant will synthesise various polymers for the formation of aqueous multi-phase systems.
These materials will be utilised to form environments for enzymatic catalysis and elucidation of enzyme activity profiles.
The environment will feature partitioning of molecules into specific compartments for enhanced control and rate of the reaction progress, as well as mobility of substrates.
