This project will explore the rapid energy release in the Sun's atmosphere due to solar flares.
Using the latest X-ray and other multi-wavelength observations of the Sun, this project will probe the nature of heating and particle acceleration in solar flares, particularly the smaller but highly frequent microflares.
The latest analysis techniques will be used, and the derived physical properties of the energy release will be used to drive models and simulations.
This work will help further our understanding of how the solar atmosphere is heated, and the physical processes behind this impulsive energy release.
