Grant Description

In this project the approximation of Aldhafeeri et al. (ApJ, 2022) to simplify the numerical modelling of MHD slow body modes will be used to calculate the eigenmodes of pores and sunspot umbrae with light bridges using using an implicitly restarted Arnoldi method.

The modelling will fully take into account the irregular cross-sectional shape of observed magnetic waveguides and allow the background magnetic field strength, pressure, density and temperature to vary in the plane of the photosphere to capture the realstic structure of light bridges. This research is most timely due to now fully operational status of the 4m Daniel K.

Inouye Solar Telescope, the most powerful solar telescope ever built.
