This project involves the construction and testing of a detector system for studying fission fragments produced following transfer-induced fission, a surrogate technique for studying the fission process in systems where direct neutron irradiation is not possible.
This system is intended for installation at the ISOLDE Solenoidal Spectrometer, at the ISOLDE facility CERN, where radioactive ion beams can be used to study fission in exotic nuclei. The commissioning of this new detector system with the first beam will be the focus of this project.
