In response to recent loss of queer spaces in London, and a rise in homophobia and transphobia, this project explores the potential of the scenographic (pertaining to the creation of performance environments) to generate new knowledge and insights into queer placemaking (the shaping of public space by/for the queer community).
Using archival research, autoethnographic writing, and community interviews, I will ask what a scenographic understanding of the relationships between people, spaces and time can offer queer placemaking, with potential to influence future strategies for queering the urban environment.
