The LHCb experiment has provided strong hints of physics beyond the standard model in decays such as the transition of a b-quark to an s-quark such as b->sll decays. In addition the experiment is working on performing stringent tests of the CP-violation mechanism in the SM. Both these topics rely on the amplitude analyse of 10s-100s of millions decays.
These analysis are computationally intensive processes and the Bristol LHCb group leads the development of such techniques.
The project would involve working on amplitude analyses of a multibody B-hadron decays in order to confirm or refute the current tensions to the SM and perform the most precise measurements of CP violation in beauty quark decays.
