This project concerns the measurement of the fundamental CKM parameter gamma. The project will make of use of the new data to come from the LHCb experiment's upgrade phase. The project will make use of the powerful decays B-->DK where the D decays to a variety of two and three body decays.
This will require good understanding of the data quality of the new experiment, and given the expected sensitivity will also require careful evaluation of the systematic uncertainties. The publication strategy will be depenedent on the rate of data from the experiment in the first few years. It is expected that a joint analysis of all the D decay modes will be performed so that the lower yielding channels can profit from the high yielding control modes. This is the first time such a measurement will be directly performed.
The student will also become an expert in PID calibrations, setting into format the proton calibration sample initially.
