The Giant African Snail (A. fulica) has spread throughout Brazil and was recently detected in Argentina and Paraguay.
Local authorities are unfamiliar with the significance of the presence of this pest, and other species of terrestrial mollusks that threaten the region, or actions available to take in response. The workshop provided detection and control methods for them, as well as for the Giant African Snail.
The training assisted 48 responsible plant health professionals in the countries of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Peru, who were recently infested or at risk in identification skills, survey techniques, field collection methods, and control and eradication practices of exotic terrestrial Mollusk pests.
They will now have the capacity to incorporate the knowledge and skills into their country's strategic plan concerning mollusks harmful to plant health. From 06/19/2011 to 06/25/2011.
