Plant Health Systems Analysis Course - The course is designed to build capacity within the international plant health community by illustrating how the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confronts the complex challenges posed by a wide array of global and domestic plant health issues.
The two week course include an overview of APHIS and highlights the interaction with other Federal and State agencies, international organizations, foreign governments, industry, and the general public in order to address plant health issues of mutual concern.
Topics included Fundamental Concepts of Plant Health, International Health Standards and Agreements, Legislative Authorities, Pest Risk Analysis and Management, and Plant Health Functions.
The course included field trips to: an exporting nursery, a local port of entry and the National Plant Germplasm Inspection Station.
At the end of the course, participants had an opportunity to assess how their organization responds to plant health issues and began to identify gaps. The training educated mid-level ministry officials on the im
