Grant Description

This new APHIS international course was implemented in FY11 at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa and collaborating state laboratories.

The course provided laboratory Officials from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine insight into the U.S. system for coordinating among state and federal laboratories.

The participants traveled to state laboratories to discuss their measures for collecting samples and data and sharing those with the federal reference laboratories for high-risk agents. The participants also received training in the laboratory on quality control and network development procedures.

The overview is expected to increase cooperation among countries of the former Soviet Union region and between the former Soviet Union region and the United States.

It will also increase awareness and familiarity with international standards and regulations regarding animal health systems. From 08/14/2011 to 08/20/2011.
