The State Department authorized $2 million for veterinary support with a focus on integrating Eastern Turkey. The request for assistance came directly from the Turkish CVO.
USDA Foreign Agricultural Service implemented a direct government to government grant for $1.5 million, the remainder; $500K was set aside for Veterinary Epidemiology training.
A series of 6 Epidemiology training workshops for Turkish field veterinarians were conducted with APHIS subject matter expert assistance. A total of 183 Turkish officials were trained in basic and advanced veterinary epidemiology. Funding supported travel and per diem costs related to the training in Turkey.
