The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) requested that APHIS provide Animal and Plant Health expertise to fulfill immediate short-term temporary duty assignment needs in Pakistan.
The goal of the detail was to prepare for future collaborative projects with Pakistan and assess current facilities and organization.
The assignments involved considerable interface with the Pakistan Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL) as well as the National Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (NAPHIS).
Selectees provided technical reviews of the gaps in the current Animal and Plant Health systems infrastructure in Pakistan and recommended actions to strengthen technical and institutional capacities as part of the U.S. Embassys on-going support program in Pakistan.
APHIS sent three separate missions to Pakistan in total, largely focused on the collaborative program with the Pakistani Government and the FAO on control of FMD. From 10/03/2010 to 11/04/2010.
