APHIS/VS/CEAH was approached by the Department of State to provide technical assistance to Chile regarding Aquatic Animal Health Assistance.
Under the U.S.-Chile Joint Commission for Environmental Cooperation, APHIS is providing assistance in the area of sustainable salmonid production. This is intricately tied to health and disease management issues of which Chile has confronted many recent challenges.
Technical emphasis on adaptable disease control and reduced pathogen exposure will be emphasized as a benefit to other farmed and wild or feral aquatic animal populations of Chile.
Since disease exposure can also extend to migratory species and trade of products, this project will help to safeguard the U.S. food supply and aquatic animal health. From 04/01/2011 to 12/31/2011.
