Grant Description

A CEAH expert provided technical assistance in the design of a national CSF survey in the Dominican Republic.

The expert worked with the CSF DR Program Manager and the Epidemiologist of the Animal Health Department of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Other officials included Ministry officials and representatives of the swine federation in order to gather information on the CSF program and the swine industry.

The expert, APHIS-IS staff and Ministry of Agriculture officials visited swine commercial farms, small farms, backyard, etc. in the areas of Santiago-Moca and the South West (Barahona, San Juan) and also met with the Regional Field staff of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The field visits provided basic information on the characteristics of the swine industry, swine movement, risk factors and the field operational structure of the CSF program. The survey results will be used by the CSF program to develop a work plan focused in the high risk CSF areas. From 01/09/2011 to 01/15/2011.
