China Eximbank provides $32.5 million loan for El-Fashir Water Supply System Project On April 17, 2005, China Eximbank and the Government of Sudan signed a $32.5 million loan agreement for the El-Fashir Water Supply System Project.

The proceeds of the loan were used to finance a commercial contract signed by China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) and the Public Water Corporation of Sudan on April 13, 2005.

The project involved the construction of a water supply system in the city of El Fashir (الفاشر), the capital of Northern Darfur State.

The project was last known to be in the implementation phase, and it was expected to reach completion by 2009; however, the current implementation status and actual start and end dates of the project are unknown.

  2. On the same day that CAMCE signed a commercial contract for the El-Fashir Water Supply System Project, it also signed a commercial contract for the Gedarif Water Supply Project (see Project ID#21570). According to one World Bank source, the total combined project cost of the El-Fashir Water Supply System Project and the Gedarif Water Supply Project was $100 million USD.
