Grant Description
In October 2011, the Chinese Government provided a donation of three packages (batches) of in-kind humanitarian support to the Tripoli branch of the Libyan Red Crescent Society to help deal with the crisis caused by the 2011 revolution. The total monetary value of the batches was RMB 20 million (~$3.2 million USD).
The Red Cross Society of China provided the materials.
On October 11, 2011, the first batch of humanitarian relief materials — including 43 tons of rice, edible oil, and medicine — arrived at Mitiga International Airport (outside the city of Tripoli).
The second batch — including 40 tons of rice, edible oil, and medicine — arrived on board a Belorussian carrier on October 14, 2011. The third batch was scheduled to arrive on October 15, 2011. The implementation status of the third batch (package) is unclear.
The Libyan Red Crescent Society, as the recipient of the aid, planned to distribute it to the fighters of the country's ruling National Transitional Council who had been wounded in combat, as well as those actively fighting in Sirte and Bani Walid.
The Red Cross Society of China had previously provided aid worth to RMB 50 million to Libya in August 2011 (as captured by linked Record ID#2429).
