Light-activated cap for catheters sterilization

With the requested funding we aim specifically to: i) design, optimize and assemble SmartCap prototypes; ii) validate (in vitro) SmartCap efficacy and safety; iii) produce SmartCap in pilot-scale; iv) clinically validate it with key opinion leaders in a cluster randomized trial in an HD centre; v) achieve IP protection internationalization and define the regulatory pathway framework.

Reaching these specific aims will give regulatory agencies, clinicians and investors strong assurance regarding SmartCap clinical and financial viability.

This will be essential to obtain investment to establish a spin-off focused on large scale production and commercialization of the SmartCap.

This life-saving technology will alleviate the daily suffering of the millions of people in dialysis that suffer from catheter infection torment, and for the 76M people in kidney failure that will most likely end up needing a catheter.

This affordable solution aims to reach global community, including those in low- and middle-income countries, often without proper care.

This versatile cap can be used in different catheters and adjusted to other infection-prone medical devices, and therefore in the long term we expect to expand our portfolio of products and implement ourselves as pioneers in the development of fully integrated sterilization systems for medical devices.
