MORU has an unparalleled track record in tropical medicine research, with a tangible impact on global health.
Despite these successes, not all opportunities to translate our research to impact are realized, explained by the lack of expertise amongst our research community in navigating the inherent challenges to late-stage development of scalable and sustainable health interventions.
In 2018, MORU was awarded an Institutional Translational Partnership Award from Wellcome and its effect on translational research capacity has been transformative.
We now have a team of dedicated translational research fellows providing training and capacity building in all aspects of translational research, and extensive support for over 70 projects in our iTP portfolio. This application is for 3 further years of funding for the programme.
Beyond the aforementioned contributions, we will expand the iTP team to include global health analysts to work with PIs on evaluating the potential long term impact of their projects, providing tangible outputs for funding applications and business case development. With our host institution, we will pilot a new diagnostics development centre.
We are also planning surveys and interviews with a range of stakeholders to ensure our research is oriented towards interventions with the largest possible impact where most needed.
