USAID will support a new activity to improve nutrition outcomes of children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls in the southwest region of Bangladesh.
This activity will provide technical assistance to service providers, market actors, and other key stakeholders to help increase the demand for and consumption of nutritious food and wash products, and empower women.
The activity will utilize a comprehensive social behavior change strategy to increase consumption of nutritious and safe foods by rural households, increase social and economic empowerment of women and girls, and improve access to and utilization of improved water, sanitation and hygiene products and practices.
The high rate of severe malnutrition negatively impacts Bangladesh's development by limiting the the health and wellness of the population. Improving nutrition requires addressing challenges in hygiene and sanitation and women's empowerment.
By working to address these issues should accelerate the economic and social development of the country and reduce gender based violence.
