USAID's Access to Justice program will seek to address the inequality within the structure and performance of the formal justice system and within traditional dispute resolution mechanisms, which currently reflect divisions along clan, ideological, gender and political-economic interests.
With FY 2017 resources, the program will seek to support Somalia in taking its first steps towards a credible and legitimate justice system that is perceived as efficient, neutral and professional in the execution of its functions.
The program will also support the development of systems and institutional linkages that safeguard citizen security, expand citizens access to justice and create an enabling environment that protects and promotes basic human rights.
