China Eximbank pledges RMB 200 million loan for construction of 725 housing units in Gaborone, Maun, Jwaneng, Lobatse, Palapye, and Francistown On December 6, 2004, China Eximbank and the Government of Botswana signed an RMB 200 million loan framework agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, China Eximbank agreed to lend up to RMB 200 million to the Government of Botswana for the construction of 725 housing units in Gaborone, Maun, Jwaneng, Lobatse, Palapye and Francistown.
Construction on these units is expected to conclude at the end of 2007, with the first 425 having been completed by 2005. It is not known if any subsidiary loan agreements were approved through this framework agreement.
In the database of Chinese loan commitments that SAIS-CARI released in July 2020, it records this RMB 200 million framework agreement as having resulted in a $4 million concessional loan and a $24 million buyer’s credit. However, AidData has not identified any official sources that corroborate the existence of a $4 million subsidiary loan or a $24 million subsidiary buyer’s credit.
