On 6 January, 2010, the Chinese Government announced plans to construct a solar energy plant in Zimbabwe.
These plans were supplemented by another announcement on 26 October, 2010 that the project would be undertaken within the following three years.
The project was announced by the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Xin Shunkang, and the agreement for the project was signed by the Chinese Deputy Ministry of Commerce, Jiang Zengweni, in July 2010.
In 2012 Xin Shukang reiterated that China was to fund the construction of solar and gas power stations in Zimbabwe during the next few years, under the auspices of FOCAC, but did not reveal further details.
Also in 2012, a Zimbabwean paper reported the Chinese Government is actively implementing small power, solar and biogas projects for Zimbabwe, but the connection between the two reports is uncertain.
