Grant Description

Syria Essential Services (SES) supports the restoration of essential services in liberated and opposition-controlled areas in Syria, including: water, electricity, sewage, public buildings, agricultural infrastructure, and access to markets.

Implemented by IRD, SES will improve and expand access to essential services, including refurbishment and repair of water/sanitation; electrical grids; schools and health care facilities; agricultural infrastructure and community-identified projects. SES also aims to increase the capacity of Syrian institutions, primarily local councils, and strengthen civil society.

After years of conflict and a reliance upon HA, the SES program will also create inclusive and sustainable livelihoods opportunities to help people have some form of employment and income to build resilience in the face of a protracted conflict.

Finally, research and analysis and monitoring and evaluation help SES make evidence-based decisions to improve program implementation.
