Water, poverty, and environment are intrinsically connected - with water needed for everything from irrigating crops to running hydropower dams.
But climate change is rapidly affecting the hydrological systems in Nepal - causing longer dry seasons, changing the pattern of the monsoon, reducing recharge of underground aquifers, and bringing disasters like floods and droughts. In Nepal, there is very little coordination between various water resources management agencies to maximize optimal and sustainable water uses for various sectors.
There is also a shortage of scientific evidence to measure and predict current and future water resources, especially under climate change scenarios.
