USAID is building the capacity of the democratically elected National Assembly (NA) to function effectively as a legislature and to raise awareness to its constituents regarding the work that a NA should be performing but unable to under the current restricted environment imposed by President Maduro, the judicial branch, and the newly created Constituent Assembly.
The latter was created in an arbitrary and unconstitutional manner by President Maduro in order to draft a new constitution that will likely consolidate PSUV's (ruling party) power.
Consequently, USAID support to the NA will now focus on building communication capacity, constituent relations and elaboration of policy positions for sectors such as health, education, economic recovery and citizen security.
