USAIDs Senegal All Children Reading program supports reforms across the countrys education system.
Known in French as Assistance Technique au Programme National de la Lecture du Senegal (AT-PNLSen), the project works with the Ministry of Education to improve early grade reading instruction in public schools and daara Koranic schools. Daara is the title used in Senegal to designate a traditional Koranic school.
To implement evidence-based reading interventions, AT-PNLSen draws from both the Ministry of Education and local expertise.
Senegal is renowned for its experts in linguistics, education, research, information technology, publishing, and other sectors.
The Ministry of Education is working with these local experts and several NGOs to pilot initiatives that improve Senegalese students reading abilities.
These pilots include mother-tongue instruction and innovative social and behavior change communications that encourage family and community involvement in education.
