This project builds on the previous Pakistan Trade Project, which focused on improving the overall trade environment and increasing trade volumes by enhancing cross-border and regional trade with neighboring countries.
The new project has four planned focus areas: (i) improving the Government of Pakistan's ability to develop and implement reforms of policies that affect trade; (ii) strengthening public and private sector engagement in trade policy making and reforms; (iii) improving regional trade and transit facilitation by Pakistan Customs; and (iv) improving regional business-to-business linkages.
The first two areas support broad improvements to the business enabling environment in Pakistan regarding trade, and the others improve the capacity of Pakistani businesses to access regional markets.
Trade associations, logistics firms, business associations, Government of Pakistan ministries, and regional counterparts will increase access to markets through the negotiation and implementation of treaties and trade facilitation measures.
The implementing partner for PREIA will be competitively selected through a process resulting in a multi-year technical assistance contract.
