Grant Description

As the second largest contributor to GDP growth, tourism is a critical sector for Jordan's economy.

The tourism sector also has the ability to contribute substantially to addressing Jordan's unemployment challenges as it is well-poised to absorb thousands of the young Jordanians who will enter the workforce in the coming years.

The new Building Economic Sustainability through Tourism (BEST) activity will continue on-going work to increase the competitiveness of the Jordanian tourism sector and connect Jordanian youth and women to jobs in the sector.

BEST will also support a renewed effort to ensure that the communities hosting Jordan's many tourism sites will benefit from the income generated in the sector. Finally, the new activity will place special emphasis on mitigating the impacts of seasonality and regional turmoil.

BEST target results will include:-15 percent increase in tourism receipts from baseline year-30 percent increase in domestic tourism receipts -Creation of 30,000 additional jobs in the tourism sector-15 percent increase in female participation in the workforce-20 percent decrease in seasonal fluctuations in tourism receipts from baseline year
