Grant Description

USAID will work closely with the African Water Association (AfWA) to improve regional coordination for WASH initiatives, policy harmonization, capacity building, dissemination of best practices, and innovative knowledge.

USAID will strengthen AfWA's operations management, advocacy, policy development, strategic planning, communication, outreach, and leadership skills.

USAID expects to expand the enabling environment for urban drinking water by improving monitoring, building laboratory capacity, encouraging informed decision making, and improving enforcement and compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

USAID is linking AfWA with the American Water Works Association, a member association of water and wastewater utilities in the United States, to discuss possible future partnership.

AfWA has vendors and suppliers among their membership, and harmonization of standards would allow for additional opportunities for US companies in Africa
