Reading a Artistic Practice: a Nordic Reading Laboratory

The Artistic Reading Workshop will bring together writers, teachers and researchers in literary composition to explore the concept “artistic reading”, based on literary practices.

This collaborative work will provide new and deepened knowledge of reading and constitute the first step in building a Scandinavian Reading Research environment.

In response to artistic research questions and pedagogical issues, in a time marked by what has been labelled a “reading crisis”, reading will be examined from artistic, critical and practical perspectives.

Approaching literary texts in/as a process, as a collective practice, as a verbalization of experience, are all familiar methods in the field of literary composition.

They have the potential to contribute to a richer understanding of reading, in the artistic field as well as in society at large.

These methods will be investigated and evaluated in two workshops in 2025/2026, where experienced readers will discuss reading as part of artistic practice.

In developing the concept “artistic reading” and preparing for an environment where reading is identified as an articulated knowledge the workshops will lay the foundations for a differenced and initiated understanding of reading.
