Concerns are growing about the Swedish education system´s ability to deliver equitable, high-quality outcomes, with challenges in recruiting and training qualified teachers adding to the difficulties. A data-driven approach is crucial to understanding this and driving effective solutions. Quantitative analyses can uncover trends, identify causes, and guide evidence-based policymaking.
Sweden´s extensive, high-quality longitudinal data registers provide valuable insights into education, well-being, and labor market outcomes, yet they remain underutilized in research. Swedish researchers, with access to these resources, are uniquely positioned to inform policy and propose solutions.
The proposed research school unites four leading universities with expertise in register data analysis across education, sociology of education, and economics.
Building on the success of the first two phases of the Research Schools for Quantitative Research Methods in Education (QRM I, II), the third phase, Register-based QRM (R-QRM), will further develop expertise in register data analysis for educational research. PhD students and researchers will receive training in data collection, management, and advanced analytical techniques.
R-QRM will also provide workshops on database management, ethics, and publishing using register data, alongside advanced methods courses.
This collaborative effort among four universities aims to establish a sustainable network for future research and capacity building.
